February 15, 2002, Newsletter Issue #10: Automatically Fill Data

Tip of the Week

If you type data in cells A1:A5 and type a formula or text in cell B1, double-click the fill handle of B1 cell (little square down-right on the selected cell). Microsoft Excel will fill the data down the column from cell B2 to cell B5.

For example:
A1 = 1
A2 = 2
A3 = 3
A4 = 4
A5 = 5
B1 = A1 * 2

When you double-click fill handle of B1 cell, B2..B5 cells will contain following values:

B2 = A2*2 = 4
B3 = A3*2 = 6
B4 = A4*2 = 8
B5 = A5*2 = 10
